Since upgrading to iOS 8.0.2 I am being asked for my Apple ID when writing a new e-mail from my iCloud e-mail address.

I have just clicked on Cancel and sent it successfully but would like to know why I am getting this 'message'.

Are you signed into iCloud and are you getting the same request for subsequent new emails?

Yes. The first thing I did was to alter something slightly in Calendars to see if it changed in other devices. It did.

I have now responded to the request and seem to be able to write a new e-mail without triggering this response.

I still don't quite understand the reasons for this problem though.

Thanks as ever for your help. I don't seem to be able to give you a rating as I've apparently overstepped the limit but please carry on!,

This will now happen the first time you use the service from a new, unrecognized or updated device (as in new OS version), or from iCloud.com for the first time. It's a security feature.
