Hello! I am trying to reinstall mac os 10.5. My powerbook G4 computer needs to be defragged and reinstalled. The problem i am having is that my DVD player on my laptop doesn't work, it spits out the dvd instead of reading it. I have always used a firewire dvd drive but have quickly realized that this won't work for reinstalling 10.5 as it seems my computer won't read from the firewire dvd drive during boot up.

Is there anyway to reinstall mac os from my firewire dvd drive? any suggestions?

I don't see a way since the Powerbook will not boot from an external DVD drive and your internal drive is not working right.

Have you thought about replacing the DVD drive in your Powerbook? Take a look here: http://www.ifixit.com/ They also have step by step instructions to help you do it yourself.

Regards.

Hey, try this.

1.- Plug in your external drive
2.- Go to System Properties
3.- Startup disk
4.- Select your external drive as the startup disk
