My son wants a Nano for his birthday and the cheapest one - 2GB - is £100.

I want to get him at least a 4GB on but this is £130 and I don't want to pay that much because I have four children and set my budget to £80 each for their birthday's.

I can get a refurb 4GB Nano for £85 - has anyone any exprience of the refurb Nano's? Are they really scratched or marked? I don't expect it to be perfect, but I don't want it to arrive looking really worn either.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

Heya :)

I haven't personally delt with any of apples offerings when refurbed but from what i hear throughout this board, is that the refurbs are usually in very good condition, sometimes hard to tell apart from new units!

Give it time and im sure a few more people with better experience will chime in :)

I recently purchased a refurb Nano 2G. Physically it was perfect - no scratches or anything.

I encountered three minor annoyances with it when I first used it. The first annoyance was that when I connected it to my MacBook nothing happened. The second was that it didn't have an owner's manual to tell me what to do.

I went to the Apple site, downloaded the manual, and found out how to reset the Nano. Voila, it worked! Then I had my last annoyance with it; it was formatted for Windows. I wiped the device, upgraded the software through iTunes, and I was done. Since then it's been great!

Would I do it again? Yes.

Hope this helps!

I recently purchased a refurbished first generation Nano. Everything works fine without any scratches or noticable flaws. I'm not sure how long the battery life lasts, but it does seem to be less than my older iPod.

I gave my daughter a refurbed Nano. It was flawless.

Refurb units come in plain brown packaging, not the slick boxes you see in the Apple Store.

Thanks everyone for all the advice :D

I am not really bothered about the packaging since he knows that I am unable to go much over budget as it would not be fair on the others.

Thanks again, I am off to order :)

I've bought 2 nano (refurbed) as gifts in the last two months. Great deal and they come w/ the 1 year warranty!! They don't come w/ the flashy packaging but they come with all the goods.
