I have always gotten a new iPhone through my provider, AT&T, when contract comes up for renewal. But this time I am considering replacing my existing iPhone 4 before contract comes up, which is next May. So would appreciate any advice from you all.

I am considering getting a 4S but haven't decided on waiting for Apple to drop the prices just before the next phone launch or looking for a refurbished one now.

My other request is has anyone here ever gotten a new phone and gone into their service provider to get the new phone to replace their current phone with any changes to existing contract. How does that work, is it easy, do they charge for anything?

Thanks for your help. I do appreciate everyone's input.

Most providers are acceptable to giving upgrades and making contract changes as long as you continue service with them. You might want to hang on though until the iPhone 5 is released before making up your mind.

Make sure you find out if you'll be subject to an upgrade fee and or another activation fee before extending your contract or getting a new phone.
