Hello

My first post!

I have just found a worm file on my four-year-old G5. :(

I think it got there via a memory stick which I often use on my business travels to print out docs at the various hotels I stay at. I suppose it's been in quite a few PC USB ports in its time, thought I do format it pretty regularly via the disk utility.

It's an "isee.exe" worm. Locked into my trash folder and I don't know how to remove it. As, like most worms, it has an endearing way of protecting itself. Grrr!

ClamX picked it up today on my regular check.

The full string is this:

Users/**********/.Trash/RECYCLERS/S-1-5-21-1482476501-164441937-682003330-1013/isee.exe:Worm.Autorun-780FOUND

The asterisks are my name, obviously :Smirk:

Any thoughts as to what I should do?

Have googled this without much success so far, hence posting here...

Any bright ideas, O wise ones?

Many thanks in advance!

The .exe won't run on Mac OS X....

If you can't delete it from the trash, open finder and in the finder menu use " Secure Empty Trash "

Many thanks to both of you.

I did follow correct forum protocol and make a detailed search of the website and google (with, I thought, an intelligent attempt at a search string :[ ) for about 1/2 hour so as not to idly post unnecessarily, but my search proved fruitless, I'm afraid.

I thought it best to search under the name of the particular worm file, but that obviously wasn't the way to go... I just kept finding instructions for a PC which weren't transferable.

I shall follow the advice via the links you've given.

Thanks!

This is what worked...

Hello

Thought I'd post back here which of the options worked, for anyone else following on behind me, with a similar prob.

Secure Emptying Trash did not work as the file is "in use" and undeletable, unfortunately.

What did work was going to this page You can't empty the Trash or move a file to the Trash in Mac OS X...

...and following the instructions specifically in the section marked "Advanced tip about deleting locked files". These instructions are very specific and you have to follow them to the letter.

Many thanks! :)

Whilst not contributing to the solution in this thread, I watched its progress. May I say 'thank you' to Helen, and add that I wish more people would post their 'mission accomplished' responses.

Thanks hughvane!

I always find it really frustrating if I'm reading through a thread and no-one bothers to come back and say whether the various advice/suggestions have actually worked in practice.

A bit of instant feedback is always a good thing ;D

Hope it's warmer in NZ than it is here in the UK :Grimmace:

I think it's just chance that the exe file that won't trash happens to be a virus file. It's just a bunch of 0's and 1's that OS X can't do anything with, so it's not as if the virus is resisting being deleted. It could just as easily be a JPEG file.
