Any recommendations for a checkbook program that will work with my Mac? I did a Search but the 11 subjects that showed up did not seem to have anything to do with checkbooks. Thanks in advance for the help!

I would recommend any half way decent spreadsheet. I keep my check book in an Excel spreadsheet - have for years and it works very well. I created the (very simple) format myself, and twice a month or so, I go online to my bank web page and balance the checkbook in the spreadsheet against the posted transactions showing up at the bank.

Might this be an option?

I use Wife 1.0.

I also use Wife 1.0, but Wife 1.0 also uses a Macbook. She tried Quicken on a PC back in the day, but found it to be...confusing. So now she uses a combination of our on-line banking thing, her (written) check register, and the Calculator widget. I'd like to get her using something a little more...21st century since we now have the tech. Plus if she isn't able to do the bills for some reason, I'd like something that I could just copy the data over to my Macbook should I need to take over for awhile.

I saw a post on TUAW a few days ago about Cha-Ching. Is that any good or should I be concerned about its beta-ness?

I stopped trying years ago to upgrade Wife 1.0 to Wife 1.x ... and at my age, the expense of upgrading to Wife 2.0 is simply not worth the hassle.

The most EXPENSIVE Upgrade of all-time...
Not to mention if you have any "Plugins"... then you'd still have to pay "Plugin" Support for quite some time.

Wife 1.0 used to request installation of plugins on a regular basis, but after nine years I found the proper preferences file and got it to stop.

Weird? How?

It will crash when I am not even using it, which is odd.

I don't like how it does auto-fill. I will type in the Type, like Withdrawal, then when I type in the Payee it will auto-fill the Type even though I already typed that in, so then I'll have to change it back to what I put it as the first time.

It doesn't like to Tab either, if you have an entry you need to change, you double click into a field, change it, then press tab it doesn't go to the next field. It will tab correctly if it is a new entry though.

Wow we don't have those problems here and it's been very stable.

Odd indeed.

We are an interesting bunch! A fairly routine query about checkbooks turns into discussion of upgrades to Wife 1.2, in another forum, a rant about PCs vs. Macs turns into a discussion of whips and chains... glad to see that this is such a lively bunch! Keep up the good work!! :)
