Hi folks.

Could someone give me some advice on the best locations for each of the RAM sticks on my Mac Pro 1.1 (2.66)? I have of course read the Apple DIY memory fitting guide and have noted the picture showing where to position sticks. My sticks are in matched pairs but each couple is of different capacity so was wondering if there is a preferred solution?

The computer is currently recognising 3GB of the 11GB fitted and I have 2GB more to add. Many thanks indeed.

Current configuration:

Riser A (TOP RISER)
2x OEM 512mb sticks (furthest away from hatch)
2x Kingston 1gb sticks (nearest hatch)

Riser B (BOTTOM RISER)
2x Crucial 4gb sticks (not recognised)
Currently empty but I’ve just bought 2x Crucial 1gb sticks (to be fitted)

I don't think that it matters. With all 8 slots filed…as long as the ram is installed in matched pairs (same ram density)…you should be good to go.

As far as the 2x 4gig sticks. Either it's:

- not the correct ram
- not installed correctly (remove & reinstall)
- something is wrong with the ram (bad ram)
- the slots on the riser card are bad (try this ram in different known working slots). AND…install known working ram into the slots with the 4gig ram is not to test the riser card slots.
