Yes...you're probably right. It just gets a little confusing keeping all the details straight...without seeing the computer in person.;)

This is what I was referring to earlier...that maybe the slot in position A is bad in some way, has a misaligned pin, or something is stuck in the slot (dirt, fuzz, hair, small piece of paper, etc.)...or there could be something wrong with that slot electronically...which could mean a replacement logic board (if you REALLY needed this fixed). Of course it would not be cheap!

I did check the slot, made sure it was clean, saw no bad pins, etc. If that is part of the logic board, then I guess it would cost a lot to fix. I have probably been living with this for awhile; noticed when I rechecked the RAM before a possible upgrade. I run 3 trading platforms, a streaming trading room and a browser simultaneously. Sometimes it hangs up a little, and I thought more RAM might help. It may not get worse, and I could buy 4 x4GB for the B slot, but I don't like having it not right. Do you think there is a definitive test an Apple tech could do to isolate the problem?

Recently, I had a similar problem with my 2007 MacPro. The MacPro wouldn't read the 8GB (2x4GB) cards installed last year. I followed the advice here (check System Monitor, Activity Monitor, and Terminal mode) to diagnose the problem, and then reseated the memory cards. Up and running again. Thank you, Mac Forums!
