Proper newb question - which OS?

Hi there. I got a blackbook around 2 months ago. was just wondering how i find out which version of mac os x i'm running. I tried downloading the safari update, and it said it wouldn't work on my os. so i tried downloading the 10.5.2 upgrade, and that didnae work either. any help...
