I used to use my iPhone 4 as an iPod and for Christmas this year decided to wipe it and set it up for my son to use. One of his friends went in to the settings and set it to auto wipe after getting a wrong password, then changed the password. Since he had locked it, my son went back to said 'friend' to get it unlocked, and he instead reset it back to factory. Now I can't get past the message that a SIM is required. It is a Verizon model iPhone. I tried going in to iTunes and seeing if I couldn't reset it from there to set it up again and can't seem to find any option to do it. I'm not sure if it's not able to because the setup isn't complete. I don't have it tied to a phone account, it is strictly for iPod use and to teach the responsibility of owning something like a smart phone before we shelled out the money to actually get one. Thanks in advance.

A Verizon iPhone 4 does not have a sim slot nor does it use a sim card. That iPhone is CDMA and must be activated by Verizon before it can be used. Otherwise it's an iPod that can dial 911. ;)

Yeah, no SIM card on Verizon iPhone 4. I was using it as an iPod for about 2 years before handing it down. In its current state it is stuck in the initial setup saying it needs a SIM card. Plugging it into the computer and iTunes won't let me do anything with it. It just gives me the message that the SIM card needs to be installed. I had no intention of activating it as a phone.
