Welcome to our forums.

Where did you download 10.15.7 (Catalina) from?

And please include specs for your MacBook Air: Year and model.

Thanks.

Hi chscag, thanks for prompt reply.
Downloaded from https://support.apple.com/en_US/downloads
My Mac is OS X version 10.9.5
I've managed to download the app but can't open it because it comes: The following disk image couldn't be open (macOSUpd10.15.7.dm corrupt image)

Okay, from the URL you gave above, I think you downloaded the combo update to 10.15.7. That will not work.

Go to the Mac App Store and download Catalina from there. The Mac App Store might offer Big Sur instead (11.1) but you can try to download Catalina from there anyway. Your MacBook Air can run Big Sur and it's actually a better version of macOS than 10.15.7.

You do need to be aware of two things when installing Catalina or Big Sur:

1. 32 bit apps will no longer run. You need to check which apps you have....

2. Catalina or Big Sur will reformat your SSD to APFS. APFS is optimized for SSDs.

FIRST, if you already have any upgraders for the Mac OS, either trash them or compress them. When downloading new versions of the Mac OS, you may have problems if an upgrader is detected to already exist.

Download MacOS 10.15 - Catalina - FREE from:

You may download the upgrader and find that it reports that it is "damaged."
It isn't.
What it has is an expired certificate. This can easily be fixed.

1. Go into the Applications folder.

2. Find the Installer for macOS in your Applications folder

3. Right-click (or Control-click) on the installer and choose “Show Package Contents”.

4. Open the folder named “Contents”.

5. Open the folder named “SharedSupport”.

6. Delete the file named “InstallInfo.plist”.

7. Enter your administer password to confirm.

8. Now the installer for MacOS will work perfectly.
