Problem with permissions on used iMac....

Someone just sold a used iMac (the lamp) to a friend of mine for only $100?!?!?!?!?!? Anyway.....

She took it home and started it up, and whenever she tries to access anything on the machine she gets an error saying something like "You do not have permission to access this." She says she can't get into anything. Is there anyway to fix this? Can she just reinstall OSX? Any suggestions at all?
Thanks.

She could re-install OSX if she has the install CD's but also try running disk utility's repair permissions. Disk utility can be found in the Applications / Utilities folder.

Does she have an account on it? Is it an admin account? She might be better off re-installing if repair permissions with DiskUtil doesn't work.

If not yet done, she can enable the root user and change permissions to files and folders as root - never be online as root
