Hello!,

I'm hoping you guys can help me out here as I am really confused, so recently before I decided to study abroad here in Brazil, I bought a mbp running leopard back at my home town DC, and mr smarty pants here didn't even bother to bring the OS CDs with me, and now after trouble shooting it accordingly to apples web support I need the CDs or else the laptop won't start up so the question is since I don't have the original OS disks I have to go with SL that's the only OS they sell down here, will I lose all my CRUCIAL data if I install snow leopard on it? What can I do to get the data before I install SL ?

Thank you very much guys all your thoughts and responses wil be greatly apreciated.

If you need a dvd to troubleshot (like run disk utility) then you can do that with purchased SL disks

Also, by default Snow Leopard archive and installs, so things should safe, but what Louishen said is correct of course, and you should do that first anyway.

Better be safe than sorry and make a backup of your crucial data first.

Dont be sorry for the lack of knowledge. Everyone starts with no knowledge and as a friend on here gave me some good advice to tackle the forum "There is NO such thing as a silly question, there is only silly answers".

Thanks harryb :)
