In the old days iTunes used to alls us to synch podcasts with iOS devices pretty reliably.

Now the Apple Podcasts app seems poor: for me it duplicates episodes and feeds.

Is this because it fetches both from the feed source from the iPhone itself and iTunes: if so, is there a way to stop this?

Better still, can anyone recommend a reliable, robust podcast management system that runs on my desktop (10.9.5 - and soon Yosemite), where I can control and set everything, then synch and find my iPhone (8.0.2) has updated all the episodes I've subscribed to without duplicates… and without a mind of its own, please?

I've tried Downcast - but it seems unable to synch reliably.

Thanks for any advice!

You start by complaining about the iOS podcast app, but then switch to asking about an OS X podcast app. Very confusing!

iTunes continues to work perfectly fine for me wrt podcasts on OS X. I don't need to do a lot of managing of my Podcasts on iOS, otherwise I would look for a new client there. I'm optimistic that Apple will update the Podcasts app at some point, fixing most of the problems people have had with it.

I wish Apple's Podcast app worked for me. I cannot tell a lie: it does not.

I subscribe to a feed in iTunes, synch and the feed often appears twice on my iPhone.

Is this perhaps because the iPhone app fetches podcasts independently of what iTunes asks it to do - as eel as when synching? So twice?

That's why I want a really reliable way of controlling everything from my Mac Desktop (just too fiddly to make all my changes on a small screen!) and having synch… 'just work'.

Sorry if I wasn't clearer.
