Photos are gone!

Hi guys
My Macbook Air was stolen a couple of months ago and I thought that I had lost all of my photos that weren't on my phone.
I got a new Macbook Air and today I tried to synced my iPhone and iTunes showed me that my phone had 1756 photos.. But on my phone I can only access 187 photos?
Anyone have an idea what is going on? Anyone that can help me get my photos?

Were you using "Photo Stream" with your iPhone and MacBook Air? If you had setup iCloud and used Photo Stream, your photos are still there.
