I manage a website where Adobe Acrobat PDFs (v. 10) are uploaded via a Windows 7 environment. The original files are created using Microsoft Office 2010 and saved as pdfs. We are getting complaints from Mac users that when the files are downloaded the text appears garbled. How can Mac users fix this problem?

The problem is likely the way Word 2010 saves to PDF. I know from experience when using the Windows version of Word that it does not always save to PDF correctly. And since Microsoft and Adobe are at odds... it's probably never going to get resolved. (BTW, PDF creation is not native to MS Windows Word, it's an add on that must be downloaded.)

PDF save is built into the Mac operating system and uses the standard Adobe method of creation. The only suggestion I can give you is to have your users create the PDFs using Adobe Acrobat or another Windows program. (There are many, some free.)

I am the person who creates the pdfs (most often from MS Word docs) and I upload them to the website. Mac users, who are outside of our business, are the ones having the problem with the garbly text when they download the pdfs.

I have done a little research and understand there are programs like Font Finagler that might solve the problem. Other information indicates it could be a browser issue. I have seen this problem reported many times without much resolution. Thought I'd see if any Mac experts had a direct solution.
