I am an author, have IMAC with Yosemite, 10.10.2, need to edit PDF os my Layout for book, several programs for this, anyone recommend one that really works and is reasonably priced?

I recommend PDF Pen, a bit pricey but it's the best at what it does. You can probably find some lesser expensive alternatives, but the results are not always what you expect and as an author, I'm sure you want the best quality control over your product.

As an aside the Pen is mightier than any other application. Go with chscag's suggestion.
