Hi Folks,

I installed Windows Parallels on my mac and ive managed to get a virus on it ive tried everything to get rid of it, i even uninstalled parallels twice, but everytime i re-install parallels it has stored all my old files apps ect.

Can someone please tell me how i can completely remove it so that when i do re-install it again that its completely new e.g no virus!

Thanks

I don't see how it's possible to get a virus in a VM - it's isolated from sources. What are you calling a virus? How have you identified it?

More info please.

Am, im not sure how to define it, spyware and adware, loads of pops up come up telling my my pc is infected and i should download an antivirus program, i will close all these screens but they keep popping back up, freezing the pc for a time. I actually downloaded spyware doc and scanned and removed 'viruses' but the problem is still there :(

Shanez,

PC? I thought we were talking about Mac? Or are you talking about Windows in Parallels?

You have me confused now, please clarify for us,

I would suggest you backup the really important stuff off the C drive then delete the disk image from Parallels - not Parallels itself. I think it is User>Library>Parallels (delete this whole folder).

You have Malware and not a virus. Stop clicking on pop ups. You will have to reinstall XP or gasp Vista again. Once you have done the whole install and upgrades, copy the folder image of your C drive and you can just copy it back if the same thing occurs. Make sure you install a virus protector on the Windows image right away.

OK Shanez, I'm with you now. I installed AVG Free on my Windows in Parallels and update it every time I use that copy of Windows. Windows is Windows and is malware prone, so you have to keep on top of it. AVG will do a pretty good job of keeping you clear - just set it up to do a daily or periodic full scan of Windows and check the History tab in AVG to see results when you open Windows.

Thanks for that!

Its kind of funny, one of the main reasons i got a Mac was to avoid viruses and within an hour of having windows installed i get a major one lol

This may be a stupid question, so I'm sorry in advance, but I have a mac and i had my hard drive partitioned using boot camp. I got a virus so I removed the windows partition and I was thinking about downloading Parallels instead. I was just wondering if I were to get a virus again using parallels, if it would affect my Mac files.
