The 3D support is not great, yet! Remember that this is version 1 of the 3D support so it will get better over time and the updates will be free so you aren't losing anything by early adoption .. But, if you expect to be able to play games under Parallels, especially in Vista, you will be dissapointed with this version as it doesn't play anything anywhere near as well as under Bootcamp.

Hopefully this will improve in time but for now it is not the answer to everyones prayers.

To be honest, I'm kind of sorry I bought it just now. Sure, I saved $10, but it's a little bit half-baked in my opinion. I just found out that 3D support is very limited, in fact, it only supports DX8.1, so most of the games that I'm interested in are out of the question for now. Aside from that, it is stable - but I'm not seeing massive improvements over the last version - at least not $40 worth.

I didn't think it supported all 3D Games, so will it support Shadowrun for instance. A new game recently laucnhed?

This is kind of what I thought, and why I decided to hold off on upgrading right away. I'm sure they'll get it all worked out, but it does seem like at times that Parallels releases some things too early, especially considering that this is a pay for upgrade.

I didn't check, but almost all the newer DirectX games require 9.0 minimum.

It's available. I downloaded it and tried to use a trial key, but got some odd message about checking my local time setting when I tried to activate!

Here's the link to download. http://www.parallels.com/en/download/desktop/

Anyone can download it, but you need a key to activate.

I haven't bothered upgrading, and I'm not sure I will. I use BootCamp and the iMac for games (it runs Oblivion pretty well), and I actually find Coherence to be fairly awkward. This new version doesn't seem to offer anything I need.

well, I was looking forward to the release, but it pretty much disappointed me. It only has very weak 3D support

So does this mean that Vista Premium's GUI will display with all it's shininess now?

Next question, is his an upgrade that installs over version 2?

I think you'd uninstall version 2 and install 3 instead. Some of the beta builds required you to remove the previous one.

If that is the case then what happens to my installed copies of Windows XP and all of the other software, are they left intact?

Yes, it specifies v2.5 though.

The existing VMs are converted and it warns you to back them up but my Vista installation worked fine afterwards (or at least no worse than it usually works).

I installed the update, entered my new ser# and everything works except no coherence mode. Full screen is fine, but when I click on coherence mode, nada, nothing.

Make sure Parallels Tools finishes installing / updating. Coherence is reliant on it.
