I am having a recurring kernel panic on a late 2012 macbook pro with retina display on Yosemite. I have replaced the SSD and went to Apple and there is no problem with the computer. Any help would be appreciated.

Jim

Here is the kernel panic

I see you indicate you went to Apple. What did they have to say - anything? Was this before or after the OWC SSD was installed? Did it have kernel panics before the OWC SSD was installed?

Without knowing the answers to the above I might also ask if you have reset the SMC, PRAM (NVRAM), or run a permissions repair and a disk repair. They can't hurt and may help.

The kernel panic seem to involve the launchd which controls starts, stops and manages daemons, applications, processes, and scripts. I see a reference to swap too, which is the moving of files/data/drivers off and on the SSD to the processor as needed.

Adding to Lisa's comments, I also suggest doing a shutdown and then boot up into Safe Boot Mode and run Disk Utility Repair and Verity then restart.

The safe boot will help clean and purge a lot of surplus junk.

But knowing the story about the SSD and Apple might help. ;)

I had the OWC SSD in since I bought the computer 2 years ago. It didn't start until I upgraded to Yosemite. When I went to Apple they told me there was nothing wrong with the computer and said it might be the SSD. I contacted OWC, sent them the SSD and they sent me a new SSD. I have reloaded OS X 4 or 5 times. I have reset SMC and PRAM. I am in safe mode right now running tests on the SSD. I ran disk permissions and verified the SSD and there where no errors reported.

So how often are the kernel panics happening?

From your post details, you were up for about 5 minutes. Is that common?

Do they happen when booted into Safe Boot Mode?

If not, I'd say you have some third party software conflict.

And strange that Apple couldn't find anything wrong.

I'd say it is up about 20 minutes. Not sure about safe mode, I only stayed in safe mode to run disk utility. I will try safe more for a longer time

Try creating a new Admin user from the Users & Groups preference pane. Log into that account and see if you can run for longer than your current account. If you can that would suggest that the problem is in your user account.

You probably know this but just in case: When I say create a new user account I mean account on the computer not iTunes or App Store accounts.

I tried safe mode and it restarted from there also.

This is almost always a hardware problem. If it's restarting from Safe Mode that's a good indication of a hardware fault. It appears that you checked the SSD and even replaced it, so I suppose we can eliminate that. You could have bad memory (soldered in) but you say Apple said the machine was OK. We have to assume they checked the memory. That leaves the GPU or the logic board. Since the GPU is an Intel HD 4000 and it's integrated with the logic board CPU and chipset, there's little chance that it's bad. That leaves the logic board. Could be a bad power supply or if Apple didn't do a good job of checking the machine out, you could still have bad memory. Both a failing power supply or bad memory will cause restarts.

Hmmm…??? I've always understood that if a user can boot up using Safe Boot Mode and without problems, and a normal boot has problems, then it's a software or conflict problem with some non-Apple software.

A similar situation can occur when booting from a new clean user account.

If trouble occurs with all those situations, then it's probably a hardware problem.

I agree. But the OP is getting restarts even if Safe Mode which would indicate a hardware problem. I suspect Apple didn't run a thorough diagnostic when he took it to them. The memory modules in that machine are soldered and can't be swapped to check out. He could have a bad memory module or one that's flaky which is causing the restarts.

I ran memtest earlier today and the computer passed all tests. I have since gone back to 10.9 and have been up and running for about 3 hours with no issues. I am about to start installing applications and see what happens.

I was having the same problem, took the laptop to the apple store and was told it was corrupted software, they re-loaded the OS but I was still having the same problem.

I found the problem to be with a network drive I was using for TimeMachine, every time a backup was going to start the computer would restart and give the error. Click "back up now" on time machine and watch the timer, my computer would restart when the back up was about to start. Connect the drive directly to your laptop and verify it, if there are any issues repair the drive.

Hope this helps,
