OSX programs not responding

I'm not sure how to describe this because I've never heard or come across it before in my history of Mac's but here it goes...some imbedded programs in the OS don't respond. They open up and then the dreaded beach-ball results. In the Force Quit box they quickly turn red. Here's a list of the programs so you can better understand...

Calculator, Calendar, Contacts, iPhoto, Maps, Notes, Preview, Quicktime Player & Text Edit.

Other programs like iMovie and Garageband work fine.

In addition utility programs like iBoost and Memory Clean, anything that I've tried to diagnose the program have the same results - beach balls

It's been the same with Mavericks and Yosemite.

Has anyone had this problem?

Here's my specs....

Mac Mini 2.3Ghz
8G Ram

Have you run a check on your hard drive lately? Boot the Mini to the Recovery partition (command + r) and use Disk Utility from Utilities to Verify the hard drive. Let's see what it says.

Just verified the disc like you request and it "appears to be OK"

I also repaired disk permissions but no results.

OK, next step is to try running in safe mode to see the apps will respond. Boot to safe mode by holding down your shift key and restart. Safe mode will kill all third party drivers and startup apps. It also mutes the sound. Check those apps from safe mode and let us know.

What else have you installed? Any Antivirus, or "cleanmywhaver" type third party things? Often those so-called "helper" apps cause more problems than they alleviate.

Yes, I've installed CleanMyDrive, Cleanr, MemoryClean but honestly I can't recall when they were installed. I could have installed them as a remedy to the problem.

That's it! restarted in safe mode and everything works. Now the hard part of figuring out what the problem 3rd party driver?

Remove CleanMyDrive and CleanR using the uninstaller and Memory Clean is either very good or snake oil, depending on whose opinion you seek. Same goes for Mackeeper, CleanMyMac etc.

Use Onyx the best cleaning utility and it is free!

Please do as Harry suggested. All the extra "snake oil" that you installed was gobbling up your CPU slowing everything down. And really, you're on a Mac, that stuff is not necessary. If you have any problem uninstalling any of that stuff, give a yell and someone will assist.

Sorry to ask this...but where's the uninstaller? Is it specific for each one or is there a general Uninstaller somewhere? I've looked but can't find any on my system. Thanks.
