OS upgrade on PowerBook G4

Hi Peeps,

I'd like some advice concerning upgrading the operating system on a PowerBook G4 (1.5GHZ/15.2/Titanium).

The machine is currently running Tiger 10.4.11, no errors/crashes/problems

Is it worth upgrading to Leopard 10.5?

My question back to you is...Are you willing to pay upwards of $125 bucks to purchase 10.5?

depends what the benefits are?
at the mo all the software works fine,
not really concerned about time machine (I daily backup system)

If you are happy with Tiger then stick to it, its a great version of OSX after all.

Unless you have a compelling feature you need, or a bit of software you must have then stick with 10.4

Of course, it is also a cost issue, second hand copies of Leopard are very expensive, if you are determined then I have heard that Apple will still sell Leopard if you phone up and ask, although I have never tried it myself.

Given the current cost of Leopard, no, but if it were cheap, then yes for sure.

To be really really honest...I don't see many benefits to upgrading from 10.4 to 10.5 (especially since you already mentioned not being concerned about Time Machine). I mean there are other 10.5 "bells & whistles"...but maybe the two biggest reasons for you to upgrade to 10.5 would be:

- software compatibility (you may want to run a new program, or update a current program you own, and it may require 10.5)
- hey...since you have a non-Intel Macintosh...10.5.8 is going to be the last OS update you will be able to perform!

Hey...still keep your eyes open for a inexpensive copy of 10.5 (black discs not grey). It's certainly worth getting if you can get it at a decent price. 10.5 install disks are just in high demand at the moment...since it is the last OS for PowerPC (non-Intel) based Macintosh computers.

I'll be utilizing my G4 even when I upgrade to a MacBook Pro
