Check to see if all your must have apps will run on Mavericks. How much RAM do you have? More details will help get a better answer.

If this is truly an Early 2007 MacBook Pro (it's really more of a mid-2007 model)…yes it can be upgraded to Mavericks. As to the question "should you upgrade to Mavericks"…who knows...up to you. Depends on your needs & wants.

To me…with so little info given…the ONLY reason why you SHOULD upgrade from Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.x) is because Apple is no longer issuing security updates for OS 10.6. BUT…upgrading all the way to Mavericks is not necessary. You could upgrade to Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8).

Sure you could say…"If I'm going to have to upgrade to something newer…why not go all the way?" And the answer is (since you are currently running 10.6.x). By suddenly upgrading three OS versions newer…if you have any non-Apple installed apps…there's a very good chance one or more of them will not be compatible with Mavericks (no compatible updates). Which then may require you to purchase new versions of these apps…potentially costing many hundreds of dollars.

Plus…if you have other older hardware you use (printers, scanners, external devices of all sorts)…these may be made incompatible as well. So what I'm saying is…do your homework before upgrading.

Sadly when one gets 'behind' updating becomes a huge chore.

OS X.7 Lion and later do not have Rosetta which enables Snow Leopard to run older PowerPC applications such as Office 2004 and similar vintage software.
