Optical Audio output?

Ok, so I have my 17inch MBP and it says it has "combined optical audio out". Now what I am wondering is that does that mean I can run a 5.1 surround sound from it? If so how would you go about doing that? Thanks.

P.S. the reason I am asking is because I use my MBP for video editing using FCS2 and it has the 5.1 surround sound support. So if I could hear it in 5.1 that would be awesome!

You would need a receiver/speaker system with an Optical/Digital input and a TOSLink cable to connect them http://www.xtrememac.com/audio/av_cables/toslink/

I'm having a hard time finding a mac book pro with an optical out. Would you perhaps have a link to your mac book model?

All MacBook Pros have optical out.

You have to use a mini-toslink adapter or mini-toslink to toslink cable such as the following:
