This thing has been bothering me for a long time.

Every time when I open an attachment in Thunderbird or Seamonkey, a copy will be created on my desktop.

I never have this problem in windows or linux. But it occur in Mac

How to solve this?

thanks

This solution seems works:

Here are instructions modified for TB:

1. Under Preferences, Advanced, General, and Config editor...

2. Right/Control-click anywhere in the page, and select “New” -
“Boolean” from the context menu.

3. In the dialog that pops up, type (eh, paste)
browser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit for the pref name, and then choose true
for the value in the next dialog.

4. Enjoy seeing the litter cleaned up when you next quit Thunderbird

Thank you, this may be very helpful for a client who is having bother with how TBird handles attachments. Just to clarify, where does the text to be pasted in the Boolean field end? Would you please edit your second post to show exactly where the command line ends (eg. use square brackets or quotation marks).

I note though that TBird > Prefs offers the option of where to put attachments, including being asked what to do with them.
