My laptop is running very slow and hanging up. I say that Onyx is recommended. So I tried to download it. It goes to my download file but when i try to install it all I get is a small box that says; Onyx.dmg, Can't be opened Doesn't recognize image. Can someone tell me the problem? I have Sierra and chose onxy for 10.12 Sierra.

You should be able to right click on the file and select open. This should allow Onyx to be installed.

You have to be 100% sure you downloaded the El Cpitan version, and then as Bob says right click to pass Gatekeeper's security measures. Also have you tried booting into Recovery and running Disk First Aid to see if all is well with the hard drive, and how much free space does it have?

Harry, in his first post, he mentioned that he has Sierra installed. Just in case you missed it.

Can you tell me how to change my specs to show that I have Sierra now instead of El Capitan?

Thank you for your help. I had to change a setting in my security settings to allow it to install.
So, now OnyX wants to control my computer. Should I say yes?

Onyx doesn't ask for "control" of anything. If that is what you see, that isn't Onyx. Onyx asks for an admin password so that it can fix any problems it finds in the first scan of your boot drive that it does when it first fires up. After that, it needs that authority to do the cleaning/maintenance process. But YOU are in control. You can say "no" or exit Onyx at any time.

I downloaded it from the link that you sent and it did say that it needed to control my computer.
The following I copied from their License agreement.

Requirements

OnyX only works on a Macintosh computer running macOS 10.12 (Sierra). Using OnyX on a Hackintosh or with a hacked system is at your sole risk.

To work correctly, OnyX must have permission to control your computer (System Preferences > Security & Privacy pane > Privacy tab > Accessibility).

Referring to mine? It is the Onyx home page and I have never seen that message. Tell me have you actually hacked your laptop whatever it is at all? Folk with early Mac Pros did this and ran into this problem. Also do you have Skype on the laptop? I have read it requires to take charge of your computer, and Onyx is installed somewhat similar and has done this?

Get Onyx here:

www.titanium.free.fr

And no where else. Get the correct version for YOUR version of the operating system. When you install, Gatekeeper will warn you it didn't come from a trusted source, but if you get it from that website, that is the developer. You may have to get it to run that first time by right clicking on it, then "Open" and Gatekeeper will present the warning and let you bypass it. As I said, that will happen once and after that Onyx will run just fine. When it starts, it will ask for an Admin password.

The settings you referred to are not necessary. I don't my system set to allow Onyx to control and it works just fine.

I think this post may be a little out of order Njjohns, but as you now disclose that OnyX it questioning the status of your device ie it sees it as a Hackintosh or hacked computer of some type it stands to reason that none of us have seen that particular dialogue before.
This is an unprecedented situation for me and I can only advise you heed the warning in the End User Liability Agreement or contact Titanium directly. They will not take responsibility for an damage caused by running their software if you decide to use it and this is standard practice. i would certianly have a full backup before proceeding.
