I have an old iPod that I would to give to my granddaughter. I know it's old because it's asking for a 4 letter/number code and I've been using a 6 number code for years.

I've tried what I think the old code was, but no luck.

Is there any way to completely reset the iPod under these circumstances?

Which iPod? iPod nano? iPod Touch? Depending on that, search for "factory reset <device>" in your favorite search engine and it will take you to the Apple support articles for that.

Well, it can't be the original iPod (Classic) because these did not require a passcode - in fact there was no way of inputing anything. I have 3 of these "oldies", still working fine. I think their capacity was 160GB?

So, I guess it's an iPod Touch, because as far as I recall, the Nano didn't have an input option either.

Ian, you're probably right that it's the iPod Touch..

I had the original 2x iPod Classic, 1x iPod mini, 1x iPod Nano 4th Gen, 4x iPod Nano 6th gen, 2x iPod Shuffle 4th gen. Wow I've had a lot and actually found 2 of the iPod Nano 6th gen that still power up. 😃

It's an iPod Touch. Got the problem solved. Turned out to belong to my wife. Been in a drawer for several years.
