I'm not sure if this has always behaved this way or not, but it definitely seems like it has to be a bug and not by design. Brace yourself, it's a bit precise.

Ok, so if I have an object with a path animation and I duplicate it, the path animation controls (the dotted path line and the green/red start and end handles) for the duplicated object disappear if I hide the original object using the selection pane and then attempt to move the duplicated object. Even if I add a new path animation to the duplicated object, its controls also disappear as soon as I move the object again. This is easier to see than to explain, so here's a video:

I've already submitted a report to Microsoft. I am using Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac Version 16.28 (19081202) as an Office 365 subscriber. Curious if any of you are able to replicate this in your copy of PP and in either case what version you have. I already tried to replicate this on the Windows versoin 1907 (11901.20176) and cannot do so.

I see what you mean and I too can not explain why it's doing that. I should mention that as an Office 365 subscriber myself, I refuse to use the Mac version of Powerpoint. I too have a Windows version of Powerpoint (not the latest) but it's a lot more robust and easier to use than the Mac version.

Right now we are using Keynote to open and edit all our Powerpoint files. Keynote seems to do a much better job. I realize that you may not be able to do that especially if you need to exchange Powerpoint documents with other users. All of our Powerpoint presentations are in house only.

Yeah, I definitely have a few complaints about PowerPoint for Mac. Another bug that I reported years ago that has never been fixed is that the Sound option under animation effects is randomly grays out and I have to quit and reopen PowerPoint to get it active again every time it does that. Typing parameters in can also be buggy (I type .1, and it erases the decimal, for example). But overall, I'm happy with it.

I'm sure some people read this thread and said "who cares," but I use PowerPoint largely for animations as well as more traditional slides. Some slides have 30-50 objects, so it helps to hide many of them so I can focus on the next sequence of animation without clutter in my way. Having to keep all objects that have been duplicated visible in order to work with path animations on any of them is definitely annoying and a hindrance to my workflow.

Wow I thought that was my imagination. I'm not fluent with the Windows version of PowerPoint but still find it easier than the last Mac version I tried to use (Office 2011 Edition for the Mac). I finally gave up and did the slides in Keynote and saved them inPowerPoint format.

Actually, Keynote in some ways is easier to use and better when presented than Powerpoint. I have some very old Powerpoints that were done with older Windows versions of Office and have no difficulty opening and editing them with Keynote. But like I mentioned above, all our presentations are in house only. We do not exchange PPT files with anyone else.

The presentation I was build was being used by a colleague at work to showcase some of the things her students had done throughout the school year. It was a very basic set of sides so it translated to PowerPoint quite well. In a bind I could have shown it from my MBP using Keynote.

I personally don't find the Mac version difficult to use, and any questions I have always seem to be answered by a Google search result. But maybe it's because I've been using it weekly for so many years that I've just gotten used to how to use it. Only complaints i have are these bugs!

I wish you luck with reporting the bugs to Microsoft. I've been reporting an annoying bug that I and others have noticed with the Office 365 Mac version of Word. Microsoft did answer me several months ago stating that they were working on fixing it and look for the next update. Guess what? The next update came and the bug is still there. I reported it again but this time no answer from Microsoft.

Is it the one where sometimes you can't type in text fields? That happens to me randomly, for example CMD+F to find text, but when I start typing, all I hear is FUNK FUNK FUNK FUNK...(and then I say something that's one letter off, LOL!).

No. Thank goodness I have not experienced that particular bug - yet. LOL

The bug I and others have experienced is where when opening a new document, either from template or a blank document, it opens in the left upper corner of the screen or center of the screen and chopped off on all sides. We then have to expand the document to see it in its entirety. Once changes have been made and the document is saved, it will then open full or full screen.

It's especially annoying because on my 27" screen I should be able to display two pages of a document side by side using a zoom of around 135%.

And guess what? Microsoft just today updated Office 365 and the bug still exists. I give up. :puke

Interesting...when I open a blank document, it opens pretty much in the center of the screen and the window I'd guess is about 1/3 the size of my display (also 27") with the document set at whatever the last zoom level was.
