The Notification Center replaced the old widget desktop multiple versions back. The user can now add widgets to the Notification Center, which makes it more of a universal tool, at least for me.

Oh right, I keep forgetting I still have several widgets I used to use all the time with the Dashboard.app with the Maverick OS I usually use.
