The Northbridge gets too hot in the Mac Pro 5,1. The plastic fasteners have been replaced with metal bolts, and new thermal paste applied to the heatsink. Temperatures still go rapidly over 80 degrees Centigrade on load. With Mac Fans Control it is possible to keep the heat down, but this results in noisy Intake and Exhaust fans running high rpms, struggling to keep everything cooler. However, it is only one chip that overheats. Does anyone know of a small ancilliary fan that can be attached to the Northbridge heatsink? Is there another remedy?
