Yet, it doesn't make sense to me that a card reader wouldn't work, no matter the camera model, since an NEF is an NEF etc.. or a Jpg is a jpg.. nothing to do with firmware there. Something doesn't seem right to me here. Have you tried a different USB port, or a different card reader? Maybe hook up a known good USB hub..

My D3s always worked properly. I haven't used it since getting the new camera. I'll try it.
