I've had my new MBP now for enough time to know that it is an improvement over the PC's that I've used in the past. I am ready to get a desk top to replace my old PC. My problem is that I am not familiar with the terminology for the macs.

I her a lot about iMacs, g5's etc.etc....It seems that the iMac is the way to go..is this correct?

I will be able to spend about $1200 on a desk top. I've looked at some of the refurbished units at the apple store and can afford a iMac that is relatively new. Is this a good way to go?

Are there any problems with a specific run or configuration of the iMacs?

There is now a 21.5" quad core intel core I5 in the store.

Quad core? I5? Is this a good thing?

Any help for this confused new guy would be appreciated.

An iMac gives you plenty of "bang for the buck". Better graphics, the ability to add lots of memory, 3.5" hard drive, and in some models the ability to add an SSD. Check them out at the Apple on line store. Entry model 21.5" is $1199. Also, MacWorld Mag on line has all their benchmarks.

That is what I would go with.
