Hi all please excuse some of the perhaps silly and obvious questions I am about to ask. I am a complete newbie if you will to Apple at the moment.
A buddy of mine has owned an Imac for quite some time and has been very pleased with everything it can do. I have seen this unit dropped on numerous occasions and it currently resides in a very smoker heavy environment yet the thing still refuses to fail or even falter no matter the task. I have used it a few times and the experience was sufficient for daily matters such as e-mail, web, youtube, etc.
I recently moved into a new dwelling and the space for my office is very tight and space is very much at a premium. After having my last two PC's fail in the past year I wanted to give the Mac Mini a try and see how it would work for me. As mentioned space is at a premium and hopefully a Mini is more reliable and will last for a year at LEAST!
I think my decision has settled on the Mac Mini:
Apple® - Mac mini 2.26GHz - MC238LL/A
Just using that as an example may not even purchase from them just the quickest link I could muster in the short time I have to make this new thread.
Will that allow me to watch movies on Youtube, browse web, check e-mail, simple everyday tasks with ease? I really like the space saving it does and the small power consumption is great right now when electric bills are on the rise. I also need to be able to hook me comcast wired internet to it if possible. I hope this unit is not just wireless. I don't need to play any games and hopefully my Sony digital camera will work with this just fine as it's used quite often for uploading photo's to the web.
Finally I would like to use my existing monitor and keyboard / mouse if possible since they are both almost brand new. The keyboard is a standard logitech just like the mouse is. Both of those are USB.
Now will the monitor hook up:
Viewsonic VA703b 17" LCD Monitor
I would like to get a Apple screen later on down the road, but right now I need something to replace my broken machine I have. The Viewsonic will be suffice until I am finished moving all my stuff in and get my finances completely sorted.
Sorry for all these perhaps simple questions, but I wanted to research a little and make sure all the components would work well. If you can comment on the reliability of this machine from experience it would be appreciated as well.
If you have any comments or suggestions please reply. I apologize in advance if I posted this in the wrong section hopefully this is the correct place.
Thank you.
