Can we not have the red-bounded new post icon showing without having to log in?

S'never bothered me much until recently, when I've been limited to dialup. I'm a forum addict, I admit it, and it's a hassle having to go through the user name and password process just to check whether or not there are new posts about a topic/thread. C'mon admin guys, make it simpler (and easier).

No, we can't. The only way to know what posts are "new" to you is if you are logged into your account.

Also, I'm not really sure why dial-up vs broadband would really matter as to whether you are logged in or not. You can always have the forum save your password so you dont' need to log in. I've had mine set that way for years now.

Well here's an interesting thing Schweb (and thanks for your response). When I first kicked M-F into life this morning, all the topic/thread items were grey, no red boundary. I logged in, and the red appeared. All as expected.

Later on, after visiting another forum, disconnecting for an hour or more, and then returning to M-F, the icons were red without my having logged in.

Also, I'm not really sure why dial-up vs broadband would really matter as to whether you are logged in or not.

It's the time delays; also the fact that if a line dropout occurs (occasionally), or I need to clear the phone line for incoming/outgoing calls, I'm automatically logged out of M-F. As stated, it's a hassle, not a major problem.

That has nothing to do with staying logged into MF, disconnecting from the internet will not log you out of MF if you selected it to keep you logged in unless disconnecting from the internet clears your cookies.
