Did you copy the files to your drive and now you want to convert them to a different media type? Or are you still trying to copy them to your drive?

Someone here recently told me about this app, X Lossless Decoder: Lossless audio decoder for Mac OS X. Just drop the files that are on your drive, an it will convert to whichever file type you want. After it's done, delete the originals. I don't know if it can convert from the cd to the drive, as all the files I had were already on my drive.

You need to look in System Settings > Privacy & Security, and make sure the app (Music?) has access in Files & Folders

First glitch, can I fix this?
View attachment 40079
Hi again - well, I've never seen this popup - not sure what the issue may be, possibly even a DRM (Digital Rights Management) glitch? You could google that first term and see what may come up?

Just as a trial, why not import a CD into your Music library - first select the import setting desired, e.g. WAV in the app's settings, then when the disc is inserted and you are given the option to import, select the yes choice and see what happens. Otherwise, you'll need to get another third party ripping app. Dave

Ok I did that, I think the problem is the CD drive. It's very inconsistent in it's behavior, last try it showed up in the music app, now it won't.

if I try to add to the library it still doesn't do anything.

This drive was $13 brand new and I'm hearing the mini can be fussy about cd drives. Don't know if that's true but it wont hurt to try another.
Thanks for the help.

I can't import anything, you saw the prompt I got..
This is all very unusual. I have copied these CD's before, I don't think it's drm, can't read it anymore anyway.. lol

@ Hunter - when you open the CD in Finder, the 'files' (would be in WAV audio format on a CD, i.e. about 10 MB/minute of music) can certainly be dragged to your Mini's SSD or to an external drive but copied in Apple's lossless format, AIFF which is the same size as WAV - in other words and depending on 'how many' discs you want to archive, this could be a long and tedious process.

Of course, you could pick a file format that would be quicker, such as lossless FLAC (not that much faster) or 'lossy' MP3 (about a MB/minute for standard quality) but you would need to search for CD ripping software (maybe free or at a price?). Dave
Dave , what are you saying here ? That mac will copy the wav files but write them as aiff files as default?

@hunter29, bear in mind that the Mac doesn't see an empty cd drive until and unless a cd is actually inserted into the drive. Your language about the drive not being seen could be caused by not have an actual disk in the drive?

No commercial CD uses wav files. Where did this CD come from? Is it a commercial CD or is this something somebody created for you?

Are you serious, I would swear they have always been wav files, these are commercial from the beginning.

So what are they then?
And yes the disk is in the drive , I tried it again, this time it saw the drive but would not import.

Thanks, still think the drive is the problem with music app but I don't care, I don't need it.

I can copy them which is all I need.

I don't know how I got that in my head, maybe from saving them as Wav in iTunes??

Thanks everyone!

Nope. iTunes defaults to MP3. Wav files are from Microsoft.

It might be from iTunes on winOS.

Yeah could be from my pre Mac days, oh well live and learn, Wish I was getting track titles and artwork.

But the copies will live on external drives and probably never be used so what does it matter.
