New Macbook, messages not working completely

Good day. I just purchased a new Macbook Pro M3 14 inch. I have an iphone, older macbook, and ipad. The issue is that messages will occasionally update what the other devices have for messages and it will eventually updated a new pinned contact, but I can't send messages from my new Macbook or read new incoming messages on it. I have the same Apple ID on all devices and it is receiving messages occasionally and pinned contacts, so I have no idea what I am missing. I have also tried to sync messages and it will go through the motions but won't update to what is current on the other devices.

Any help would be great.

Go to iPhone Settings > Messages and check that your device is listed in Text Message Forwarding and that TMF is actually switched on as below:

I've also manually synced my iphone icolud messages, iCloud Macbook messages, and the message app on the Macbook. the manual syncing of the Macbook made my messages current, although i still can't send from my new Macbook and anything sent to messages takes forever to be synched if I don't do it manually.

Yes.

When I turned on my computer this morning it had updated all the conversations, however when I try to send a new msg it won't deliver nor will I receive any.

I have also signed out and back in for Apple ID on the phone and laptop.

Set up a support call with Apple. You can find them at Apple.com, on the "Support" tab, and toward the bottom of the page. Usually they call within 5 minutes and are pretty helpful with issues like this.

Seems like it is a VPN issue which I hadn't thought of as it is also set up on my older macbook

Solved if I don't use the VPN yes.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the VPN but no joy. I will reach out to PIA to see if they have any ideas.

Our engineers are aware of the issue and have discovered that this could potentially be due to a macOS bug. We are still investigating the issue further and will keep you updated. If they blame it on a bug from Apple, you can tell them that I use NordVPN and have no problems with the latest version of Sequoia at all. It is pretty unlikely (although possible) that a bug impacts JUST THEM and not all VPN connections.

Thanks for the info. My contract is up in Dec so if its not fixed by then I'll be looking elsewhere.

I use Express VPN on all my devices and no troubles my end either.

I have a free Protonmail VPN that I activated with no message connection issues.
