Daybreakers.

Back on topic....I'm sure Apple is taking this very seriously and I'm sure their security will pull through.

It sounds like gloatware

The author proudly announces his new virus, but is still just a trojan so will only infect the cheapskates and idiots

Hey, I happen to love the movie Love Actually! And The Proposal, Devil wears Prada, etc etc.

However, back on topic. Being a relatively new mac user, I am a bit concerned about this virus issue. Especially seeing computer courses were non-existant when I was in school. Yes, I am that old! Anyways, I have Kaspersky for mac installed and hope it would find viruses, or trojan horse viruses. I don't click indiscriminately on links but having come from learning anything I know (or don't know) on-the-fly, and years of Windows (and still counting) and also having had a virus previously (on Windows), I bought virus protection for my mac even though I was told it was unnecessary.

Is Apple very proactive about the security of their OS?

To answer your question, Apple is extremely pro active about security.

I would uninstall that anti virus software using the uninstaller, and only of you really really truly cannot shake your Windows nightmare, then install ClamXav. It is a free antivirus that is OS X friendly and won't bloat your sytsem like other anti virus software does.
ClamXav
End of the day, your usage practices alone keep you safe, and as long as you aren't downloading dodgy, illegal, pirated rubbish from untrusted sites, and giving your entering your password any at any time you are asked, then you have nothing to worry about.
If ever you are really uncertain about a link or download, google it followed with mac..... ie Clamxav mac, and see what comes up :)

The best I can read from it, is this thing has not been released in the wild yet either.

But hey, it's a threat. So, let's everyone install a/v software so that if it ever is released into the wild, we're prepared.

Thanks, after reading the above link you posted, I am glad I am running AV software. Just not as happy that I bought it and bought a 2nd one for my daughter's MBP. Oh well, renewal time in 9 months will be free!

If you read it then you would know that your AV software is really pointless. All it's going to do is tell you if you've picked up a virus that can affect Windows and that's unlikely as well. Exercise common sense, don't go on porn sites, don't download illegal software or music/videos/movies and you won't get this particular trojan or any of the other 2 or 3 that are out there. Odds are that AV software is just slowing your Mac down unnecessarily.

Even on my Windows machine (Dell desktop) all I run is Microsoft Security Essentials. Common sense is your greatest ally.

You really don't need AV…to be honest, your best AV is your brain and its common sense.

Why do you need A/V when there are no viruses for OS X? Only a trojan or two.
