My PC portable hard drive that stored all my music for my iTunes will not let me
edit on my new iMac that I just got. It will let me drag the music out of there
onto my new iTunes set up but it will not let me edit the names of the artists or songs and it will not let me add anything on my iMac desktop to my portable PC
formated hard drive.

Please tell me how to get my iTunes to fully recognize my audio files from my portable hard drive.

Thanks,

Steven

you might need to reformat the harddrive in mac format. Also you might need to unlock the files to get them to where you can edit them. I had the same problem at first.

How do I unlock files on my Mac ?? There was no installer or driver for my hard drive..its just a usb plug in. If I find a way to format..do you think my music will get erased in the formatting to Mac ??

If I had to guess, your USB drive is formated in NTFS format. If so, you will need to reformat it (as suggested) in a mac format. Now, this will destroy any data on the drive, so you'll want to copy it all to your mac first, then copy it back out after its been reformatted

Why don't you import all the songs onto the new mac's hard drive itunes library. Then they'll all be on your new computer (unless you have more than 160gb of music/vids).

Then format the external drive to a mac. Export all the tunes/vids back onto the newly formatted external.

Make sure they're all on there, then erase you're macs itunes library, voila. Square 1 w/a mac.
