It wasn't until I turned 30 or so that I discovered that beer isn't all the same. I was somewhere with my ex and he got me a New Castle and I was surprised that I actually liked it. Since then it's been all about discovering different brews. I love microbreweries and Pittsburgh is full of them. I had a new one over the weekend. A Black and Tan. Yummy. My days of drinking to get drunk are long gone (I'm not sure if they ever existed). Now, I just enjoy and nice cold pint with my meal, but of course, it depends on the meal. Some food just goes better with wine. I won't drink beer from a can (can't say any of the beer we drink ever comes in cans) and unless they aren't available, I always drink from a glass.

A workmate of mine used to work in a brewery and he has the most interesting knowledge of beermaking, tasting, flavours, what beer to drink at a particular time etc. Just fascinating stuff. When he starts talking about the brewing process you'd swear he was reading bedtime stories to kids because us guys are just intrigued.
The history of breweries alone is very interesting.

Matt Brewing Company in Utica, NY was one of 6 breweries in the area before prohibition and the only one to make it through. Utica Club was the first beer sold after prohibition ended (trucks were rolling out less than 60 minutes after the repealing). Today it is the 6th largest brewery in the US, and yet its production amount for a year is less than Annheiser Busch produces in a day.

same story with my ex gf....

i have been drinking beer since about 13...sound odd? yes it is! but the family let me fulfil my curiosity and allow me a sip of what they were all drinking. now granted it was budweiser, "the king of crappy beer", i kind of enjoyed it. now i will not touch the stuff unless i have to, budweiser that is. i will enjoy a tasty newcastle, guinness, yeungling, dogfish head, smithwicks and many more at any time during the day as long as it doesnt interfere with the rest of my life
