Curious if anyone knows if it's possible to connect a G4 powermac to a G5 powermac and use the G5 to watch a DVD in the G4's DVD drive? Thanks.

I don't think you can. The only way I see yo ucan do it is if have an X windows DVD player application. The only problem is that the application would be run on the G4 and displayed on the G5 and I don't think that is what you want to do.

rman, thanks for the input. Not sure what you mean by an X windows DVD application. But, playing the DVD on the G4 wouldn't be too bad, though. Actually, what I'm trying to do is be able to play 2 different region DVDs without hacking the drive. My G4 has two DVD drives, each set on a different region. The problem I'm having is that the G5 only has one slot for a DVD player so I can't take one out of the G4 and put it in there. I want to play the movie on the G5 only for the optical audio. If I'm interpreting you right, I can play DVDs using the G4 which would display on the G5 monitor? But this would mean the audio would be from the G4, yes? Thanks.

Since the application would be running on the G4, the sound would be coming from the G4.

I didn't know that you can have 2 drives with two different regions. I am pretty sure that the regions are set in the OS so the different drives wouldn't make a difference

rman, I was afraid you were going to tell me that:)

trpnmonkey41, I thought you couldn't have two different regions on 2 different drives, too, but it worked with no problem. Each drive brought up its own region box on the DVD player and changing it on one didn't change it on the other. I just wish the G5 had two drive slots, my problem would be solved.

Buy an external DVD burner for the G5. You show be able to do what you are trying to do , with that set up.
