I recently went away for a couple of weeks with my trusty macbook in hand and a telephone connection cable. The house I was staying in had one phone line, for phones only, and no broadband. How could I have got online, and what equipment would I need to set up a wireless network as there were a couple of other people with macs there? What data would I need re my isp and what tel nos would I need to set it up? Clearly I am a complete ignoramus at this so be gentle with your answers please

Right here. The thread topic hasn't changed, it's just been moved to a different area.

The house I was staying in had one phone line, for phones only, and no broadband.

If the house had no broadband then the only way you could have gotten online would be with a dial-up modem which would have tied up the phone line.

Alternatively a neighbour might have had wireless broadband which they may have been willing to let you share.

To add to what Del said, the only way to get online with the dial up modem is to already have an account with an ISP. They will usually have dial up numbers you can use to get online.
