Need Parallels if I have a PC notebook?

I have a PC notebook computer and a 24" Intel C2D iMac (so nice!) which are networked together through a Linksys wireless router. iMac is hardwired to it and the PC notebook is wireless. I just installed XP and a trial version of Parallels on the iMac. Once I finished doing the installation (very easy and fast), I got to wondering why I installed it since I cannot think of anything Parallels will allow me to do that the PC notebook and network will.

Is my thinking off here? Will I limit hat I can do by uninstalling Parallels? The main thing I need XP for is to telecommute from work and to run a program I have for printing on CDs and print them on the printer attached to the iMac.

If you have a PC notebook that does everything that you need from a PC you are right in thinking that you have no need for parallels

Parallels won't allow you to do anything that you can't already do on your Windows notebook. Parallels simply allows you to run Windows, just like your Windows notebook does. It doesn't add anything extra or special to Windows, it just allows Windows to be installed. Windows still functions as it always would.

So you are correct, if you already have a Windows notebook, then you have no need to run Windows under Parallels.

Thanks for the quick responses!! i just made sense...after I installed it.

I am glad I tried the trial version instead of buying it. That would have sucked!

One thing that Parallels would give you is the ability to run both from a single machine, rather than bouncing back and forth. However, if your laptop has XP Pro (or a server edition, XP Home will not work), you can enable remote control and use Remote Desktop Client (comes with Office:Mac and is, I believe, available as a free download from Mactopia) to remote-control your laptop with the Mac.

The remote control sounds very neat....like the IT guys at work. I will have to try that in the next couple of weeks. And that means, stayed tuned...same bat channel...different bat time...for new questions!
