I have a late 2009 27" iMac I got it in april 2010 so as far as use it has been 5 years. This is the first time i ran the test first i did the short test came back with error code 4mot/4/40000003: HDD-1330
Then i did the long test that came back with error code HDD-1324
Any ideas what this means. thank you.

Why did you feel the need run the test after 5 years?

Well i did not know about the test until today.
I learned about it from pc classes on line by David A. Cox he has that class on youtube and is very good with the MAC.

It looks like the hardware test is telling you that there's a problem with your hard drive. You might want to run Disk Utility to verify the drive. You didn't mention which version of OS X you're running but if it's Lion and above, you'll need to boot to recovery in order to use Disk Utility. Otherwise run it from the original install DVD for your model iMac.

One reason why I asked was. If you weren't having any problems…your computer most likely has no problems. But you never know.

But I was mostly asking just in case you had a problem pop up…but didn't mention it in the first post.

Thank you Nick no problems that i know of i was trying prevent one. I found out thru Apple support that both codes basically mean the same that it is the fan but they told me it could be a false positive which means it could be working but not at a high speed. going to take it to apple tomorrow run some tests and at least let them clean the dust out. Then they can let me know if i need to do anything.

Please let us know if Apple finds anything (either computer hardware issue…or dirt/fuzz buildup).:)

So i just got back from the Apple Store and they ran some bench tests on my iMac and everything is just fine. No issues hard drive is fine fan is working firm ware is good.
To see if their was dust inside i would have had to leave it for 3 to 5 days but the tech told me if he thought their was anything inside to worry about he would recommend to leave it. Because there are no vent holes on top so the only way to get in is the bottom. so i brought it home and i will not worry about anything until it happens. I am happy the fan works and the hard drive is fine. Oh by the way no charge.

Great to hear...and thanks for the update.:)

Maybe what I mentioned earlier in the thread makes more sense now. Sometimes diagnostic software gives "false positives" (or error's that are really not errors or errors not to be concerned about). Then folks get all worried that something is wrong.

Sometimes (not all the time)...if the computer is running fine...the computer is running fine.:) The #1 thing we can do to assure no major catastrophes with storage devices is...backup, backup, backup.:)

Congrats again!:)
