Do you mean completely zero the hard drive or just strip personal data off but leave the OS in place?

So if there are any recommendations of a program that i can download for a Mac to do a data wipe to just delete data files that would be good. Also any recommendations for a program that will do a complete 0 wipe.

The same goes for the PC if there are any recommendations

Love that "free, of course". Everyone wants free software. Well, except for software developers, of course. ;)

Yes. Your original operating system DVDs or operating system OS X.7,8 or 9, on your thumb drive.

Excluding using the OS cd to do this....I want to be able to download a portable program that can wipe a harddrive clean of all important documents and keep the OS for both Mac and PC computers

thats harder because in windows it stores personal files in hidden recycle bin so people can still get your data on mac you need the restore disks to do a system wipe

Well, I was wondering the same as the thread developed? BTW - what does the yellow dot under the OP's number of posts mean? Dave :)

Place your cursor over the yellow dot and let it hover there for a moment and read what it says. ;)

Thanks Chscag - hovered over the dot(s) of a number members, different messages pop up (w/ some being the same) - curious, are these assigned, chosen by number of posts, or a combination? Thanks for the hint - Dave :)

I'd never noticed that hovering on the dots did this. Learn something new every day.

Sly... - you 'have a brilliant future' hovering over your dots, while Chscag has a 'reputation beyond repute' - guess that you need to get to 10,000+ posts (or more!) - Dave :)

I'm still stumped trying to figure out exactly what the "you have a brilliant future" line means. :Confused:Hay Van is that Canadian for "Get off your keister and answer more questions?".:)

Sly... - not to worry - all mine says is 'that I'm really nice' - not sure how to interpret that one relative to hopefully be helpful on the forum, BUT my wife would likely agree w/ that assessment - ;) Dave
