My 2009 Macbook Pro will not recognize my external hard drive anymore. I'm not sure if it's to to an improper removal, as I use my hard drive a lot, or something else, but it's frustrating. The hard drive lights up, but nothing shows up on the desktop, finder, or in the disk utilities.

I have tested the hard drive on another computer and it works just fine. Can anyone help?

How about other USB devices, are they working OK when plugged into your MacBook Pro? If your external hard drive is working OK on another computer, it's possible that your MacBook Pro USB ports are not supplying it with enough power.

Before you give up on it, do a PRAM reset and a SMC reset of your MacBook Pro.
