My Intel MacPro has recently started to make a beeping sound from time to time, at different intervals. The sound is always a quick double beep, and it only happens when Safari is in use, but not with Firefox if Safari is off.

I can't correlate the sound to any specific action or activity. Sometimes it happens once or twice, sometimes it occurs every few seconds, & sometimes it happens rapidly.

I'm not a developer or programer, and this really has me scratching my head, but I'm obviously concerned that it means trouble, and don't know what to do.

Has anyone else experienced this, or have any clue as to what’s going on?

I'd be most grateful if anyone could shed some light on this.

I'm on the latest OS.

Thanks

Macbook Pro beeping when using Safari

Atmhc,

I have just recently experienced the same problem as you. Seeing as your post concerning the topic of Mac beeping when using Safari was posted 9/5/10, have you found a solution? I wondered if it was a software issue.

My Mac actually just started beeping again. It beeped several times in ~1 second intervals after 10 minutes.

Thanks!

Beeping is indicative of a memory error. Use the Apple Hardware Test to check your machine. Let it do the extended tests where it also checks the memory modules. See this LINK.

Sounds like you have activated Voice Over which can be turned off in Ssystem Preferences, or by clicking Command F5. Keep us posted?

Not RAM or Voice Over

I have this issue, where I get 5 soft high-pitched double beeps while browsing (but I use Firefox) or doing other work, but not during startup. A certified (independent) Apple Tech told me my hard drive was failing. I have Applecare and Time Machine, so I will just keep on keepin' on until it dies.

Apple is absolutely no help on this issue, the telephone support guys have no way of looking up what these beeps mean.

I suggest that you make sure that you have a valid TM backup yourself.
