is this normal? its a 120gb hitachi Perp HD.

it never goes to sleep while the computer is on. the externals i have on FW do sleep after about 10-20 min.

the internal can just be sitting there idle for any amount of time, and ALWAYS BE ON.

if i boot from my external, the internal shuts off after a while.

is it just because the internal is booted and it cant sleep it?

if i boot to the external, the drive ive booted from will sleep when its time.

?!?!?!

I take it you've already checked your Energy Saver settings? What power profile are you using (Better Performance, Custom, etc)?

Mine never sleep as well. I think journaling is to blame. Every once in a while it needs to write to disk.
