Well, it's been about 3 1/2 months since I got my MBP and just had my first screen freeze. I was doing a simple regression analysis in Excel and toggling between that and a powerpoint slide when suddenly nothing worked. I could move the mouse around ,but couldn't click on anything . I had to give up and do the old "hold down the power button".

Is there anything else that can be done other than that, like a key command? The first thing I thought of was "crtl+alt+del". Old habits die hard!

Command+Option+Escape will bring up a Task Manager-like window where you can force-quit programs.

But if it was a mouse freeze as well, there's nothing you can do other than the power-button.

And afterwards, when you reboot, the first thing you need to do is open Disk Utility and verify your disk. Highlight the named partition (Macintosh HD, for instance), and run Verify Disk. If it comes out clean, you're fine. If not, then you need to reboot your machine to your installation disc.

Insert that while the machine is still up, reboot, hold key "c", and work your way to Disk Utility. What you're trying to do is run your machine from your installation disc so that you can fix your hard drive volume independently. When you have Disk Utility up and running, run Verify Disk (and it should show the same error on your drive), and then select Repair Disk.

Yes it's a Mac and it Just Works, but it can have problems too. You'll do well to fix them while they're small problems.

Hope this helps!
