I need to investigate that a bit more. It's possible that this is a result of the hack but I had a different suspicion. The drive originally had El Capitan on it (HFS+) and I did an upgrade install rather than clean install. I think that's the reason the formatting was left untouched. I suspect that if I had done a clean insntallation the drive could have been converted to APFS.

I've got an extra day off from work coming up this weekend. I may try a clean install just for the heck of it and see what happens.

Sly....

I thought I read somewhere that the hack to install Mojave on unsupported Macs also got around the APFS formatting? Or is that a different hack? I believe it was mentioned in threads that are on MacRumors.

Thanks Patrick. That's the thread I remember seeing on MacRumors.

Obviously I've got some work to do on this issue. The extent of my knowledge at this point is limited to what I covered in the process I outlined in the first post. I'll do some more digging into this to see if I can clarify things a bit.
