Music program killing my MAcbook CPU

I am using a music program called Reason 3.0 on my new MACbook and it is just murdering my CPU usage. I already own a PC and I run Reason 2.5 with at least 24 tracks and effects and my CPU usage is super low. When I run my Macbook with only about 8 tracks and effects, my CPU is running OVERTIME! How can I configure my Macbook to run this program to the MAX, almost solely for the use of music programs? Thanks

Reason 3.0 is not a Universal Binary. All that CPU chugging you're seeing is Rosetta translating the application into Intel-compatible code.

You could try running the PC version of Reason under Parallels (or BootCamp) on your MacBook-- at least it would be running in a native mode that way.

There's probably not much else you can do, other than trade your MacBook in on a G4 PowerBook (or better yet, G5 Mac) to run the code natively.

I run Adobe Audition under XP/Parallels on my MacBook and it's very good-- it rarely chugs the CPU.

If I've already installed Reason 3.0, will I have to un-install it and then re-install it under the windows platform???

How do I install items onto the MAC using bootcamp? Like my audio card for instance?

BootCamp and Parallels are both environments that allow you to run Microsoft Windows on your Mac. Read this article to get an overview of what each of these can do for you.

Since you said that Reason 3.0 for Mac runs poorly on your MacBook, your option would be to run the Windows version of Reason 3.0 under one of these environments (BootCamp, Parallels). You would not be using your existing Mac installation of Reason: you'll be installing the PC version.

And I believe when you purchase Reason 3.0 you get both the PC and Mac versions, so there should be no more expense for the Reason software.

Install Reason 3.0.5 as this is Intel compatible and will run natively, not under PPC emulation.
